Heather & Ty | West Texas Ranch Wedding

Imagine having to completely replan your wedding in a week’s time… thanks to COVID-19, that was exactly the case for Heather and Ty! After receiving a short notice that they wouldn’t get to hold their wedding at Palo Duro Canyon like they originally hoped, they had to quickly form a new plan. Not wanting anything to stand in the way of becoming man and wife, they arranged an intimate wedding at Ty’s family ranch near Matador, Tx. And let me tell you, it was STUNNING!

Heather and Ty’s wedding was one I was suuuuper looking forward to. I got to know them pretty well during our engagement session together, and their love is so sweet! Their story goes back all the way to middle school, when they first met after their horses happened to be stalled next to each other. They soon became friends and would talk for hours while caring for their horses. Their friendship further grew when they got to attend 4-H trips together. Finally, the pair started dating their junior year of high school.

After high school, Heather and Ty both attended WTAMU and worked alongside one another as Herdsmen, or caretakers for the university’s live buffalo mascot. Heather wasn’t expecting a proposal for at least another year, but to her surprise, Ty popped the question on November 11, 2018. They were riding horses together at the ranch when Ty led them to Heather’s favorite spot, an overlook of nearly the entire property. After enjoying the view for a bit, Ty got down on one knee, and Heather of course said yes!

Things don’t always go according to plan, but oftentimes, the result is even better than imagined! Heather and Ty ended up getting married on the same property that Ty proposed, making their big day all the more special.

Remember when I said Heather and Ty weren’t going to let anything stand in the way of getting married? That included wind and rain! With a storm blowing in, the wind was intense that day, but Heather’s hair blowing in the wind made her look even more like a freaking goddess! The rain held off until after the ceremony and started pouring right when we started taking bride and groom portraits. Luckily for me, Heather and Ty were up for anything! So elated to finally be married, they literally danced in the rain and couldn’t stop smiling. It was magical to witness.

The cherry on top of a perfect day was the rainbow that appeared in the sky right as the reception was coming to a close. They say rain is good luck on a wedding day, so a rainbow that spectacular has to be an extremely good omen!

As a last note, I wanted to share something Heather told me when we first started the process of working together: “Ty is my best friend. We have been through so much together and there is no one else I would want by my side for the rest of my life. He is strong, supportive and pushes me to be my best, even when I feel like I can’t. I love him to the moon and back, I’m so lucky to have him in my life!” How sweet is that!?

Heather and Ty, I have no doubts that you two were made for one another! I’m thrilled that I got to witness your special day, and I wish you all the best. Congratulations!!
